Tinubu praises Wike for FCT delivery, hailing Abuja road project completion as key proof of renewed infrastructure development drive
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in Abuja, commissioned the completed Federal Highway 105 linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje Township and publicly praised Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for what he described as strong delivery on infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu, represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the appointment of Nyesom Wike was driven by a deliberate search for performance-oriented leadership capable of executing stalled and abandoned infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the newly completed highway stands as a practical example of that decision, describing the FCT Minister as a “proven performer” whose interventions have helped restore confidence in government delivery.
The commissioning ceremony formed part of activities marking the President’s third year in office, with officials highlighting renewed efforts to accelerate infrastructure development across Abuja and its satellite towns.
President Tinubu noted that the Federal Highway 105 project, initially awarded in 2022, had been left uncompleted for years, creating severe hardship for residents through traffic congestion, flooding during rainy seasons, and dust pollution in dry periods.
He said the completion of the road was made possible through what he called political will and coordinated administrative action, including compensation for affected communities to ensure progress was not stalled by disputes.
According to him, the project reflects the broader objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to extend development beyond the city centre to underserved communities.
The President stated that improved road infrastructure would significantly reduce travel time, boost local commerce, and enhance access for farmers and traders moving goods to urban markets.
He also emphasised the long term economic benefits of expanding connectivity across the FCT.
Vice President Shettima, delivering the President’s remarks, also stressed the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and improved infrastructure delivery nationwide.
In his remarks, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, described the project as one of the most demanding undertakings under the current administration, citing funding challenges, stakeholder consultations, and stalled contractor performance before its revival.
Wike said the completion of the highway was made possible through sustained engagement with local communities, traditional leaders, and contractors, alongside renewed government funding commitments.
He added that the road had previously become a security concern and a difficult passage for commuters, but insisted that its completion now represents a major improvement in mobility and safety in the area.
The Minister further commended the contractors involved in the project for delivering despite operational constraints and acknowledged the support of the Federal Government in prioritising infrastructure within satellite towns.
Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, also described the commissioning as a significant milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it reflects ongoing efforts to improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth across the capital territory.
She urged residents to support infrastructure protection efforts, warning against vandalism and misuse of public assets, while reaffirming government commitment to expanding development projects.
