Kaduna targets N20bn monthly IGR as reforms boost revenue from N4bn to N9bn, strengthening tax compliance and public trust

Kaduna State set a new fiscal benchmark as the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Jerry Adams, announced that the state is targeting a monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N20 billion amid ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening tax administration and improving public confidence in government.

Jerry Adams disclosed the development while receiving a delegation from the Association of Non-Indigenes Support Group for Governor Uba Sani, which paid him a courtesy visit and conferred on him the title of Grand Patron in recognition of his role in strengthening the state’s revenue system.

Adams said Kaduna State has recorded a significant improvement in revenue performance, with monthly IGR rising from an average of N4 billion in 2023 to about N9 billion at present, describing the increase as a product of sustained reforms and improved taxpayer confidence.

He explained that the state government’s focus on transparency and visible public investments has encouraged more residents to comply with tax obligations voluntarily, marking a shift in public perception of taxation.

According to Adams, “More residents are willingly paying taxes because they can see evidence of government investments in critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education and social welfare.”

The KADIRS chairman stressed that the administration of Governor Uba Sani remains committed to ensuring that tax revenues are deployed directly to projects that improve living standards and promote inclusive development across Kaduna State.

He described revenue generation as a shared civic responsibility rather than a burden, noting that sustainable development depends on collective participation and trust between citizens and government institutions.

Adams also reaffirmed that the agency would continue to implement policies designed to promote voluntary compliance while protecting taxpayers from multiple taxation and administrative exploitation.

He said these reforms are central to achieving the Kaduna IGR target, adding that the N20 billion monthly goal reflects both ambition and confidence in the state’s improving fiscal framework.

The revenue chief further expressed appreciation for the recognition bestowed on him by the Non-Indigenes Support Group, describing it as an acknowledgement of the contributions of diverse communities to Kaduna’s economic growth.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to inclusive governance, stressing that all residents, regardless of ethnic or regional background, have a stake in the development trajectory of the state.
