The Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the arrests were made after credible intelligence linked the suspects to a suspected theft network operating within the area.

According to the police, operatives acted on a tip-off from a resident, which led to targeted raids at Kano Road, Runjin Sambo, Gidan Dare and Gidan Man Ada in Sokoto State, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects.

One of the arrested individuals was identified as Yahuza Abubakar from Darna Village in Wamakko Local Government Area, who allegedly confessed during interrogation to stealing a red Kasea motorcycle and selling it to an accomplice.

The Sokoto motorcycle theft arrest operation further led investigators to Alhaji Samaila Aliyu of Gidan Igwai, who was arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen motorcycle.

During the investigation, police recovered an ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle from Aliyu, while further inquiries revealed that the stolen red Kasea motorcycle had been sold to Ahmed Abdullahi in the Gawon Nama area.

Abdullahi was subsequently arrested, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from him alongside other exhibits, including two master keys suspected to have been used in the theft operations.

The police described the operation as a significant breakthrough, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are linked to other motorcycle theft syndicates operating across Sokoto State.
