The development was confirmed on Monday as DPAN began assembling the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 sport utility vehicles at its Kaduna facility, with commercial sales expected to commence in April 2026.
The new models will be offered in Allure and GT trims, powered by a 1.6 litre THP petrol engine paired with an EAT6 automatic transmission.
The rollout signals a major milestone in the company’s drive to strengthen domestic vehicle production.
DPAN, a joint venture between Dangote Industries and Peugeot, said the expansion reflects a long term commitment to reviving Peugeot’s presence in Nigeria’s automotive market.
The Kaduna plant, which already produces the Landtrek pickup in multiple configurations, is now scaling up operations with the addition of the two SUV lines.
The move is expected to deepen local assembly capacity and improve market competitiveness.
Industry officials say the expansion aligns with broader efforts to support industrial growth under the African Continental Free Trade Area framework, which encourages regional manufacturing and intra African trade.
Michael Whitfield, Managing Director for Stellantis South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa, described Nigeria as a strategic market for automotive development, stressing the importance of aligning production with consumer demand.
DPAN Commercial Director Umar Kaita said the introduction of the new models represents a revival of Peugeot’s historic footprint in Nigeria, noting the brand’s strong legacy in the country’s automotive sector.
The Peugeot 3008 is positioned as a mid sized SUV with a focus on efficiency and design, while the Peugeot 5008 offers a seven seat configuration targeted at family users and larger mobility needs.
