The initiative, announced on Tuesday, is powered by a new bank-backed leasing scheme, forming part of LagRide’s broader expansion strategy to meet the festive travel rush typical of the Ember months.

These months see Lagos swell with returning diaspora, religious events, and family gatherings—placing immense pressure on the city’s transportation systems.

A collaboration between the Lagos State Government and CIG Group, LagRide said this development is about more than just scaling operations; it’s about empowering Nigerians.

Drivers will gain access to new CIG vehicles through a financing plan that lowers traditional entry barriers, enabling more locals to earn a stable income and work towards vehicle ownership.

“LagRide exists so that movement around the city is dignified, safe, and joyful,” the statement read.

“By joining forces with Nigerian banks, we are handing the steering wheel of that experience to empowered local entrepreneurs.”

The scheme addresses a long-standing challenge for drivers in Lagos—opaque costs and difficult financing.

LagRide’s model ensures clear terms and eliminates hidden charges, offering drivers financial clarity and sustainability.

Acting Managing Director, Jubril Arogundade, emphasised the programme’s potential to raise standards in the sector.

“The new leasing programme continues that promise by giving drivers a simple, transparent route to owning the cars they drive while improving service quality for riders,” he said.
