Lagos State set to burn seized styrofoam packs from markets

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources says it seized styrofoam food packs across markets in different local government areas of the state on Thursday.

This was disclosed in photos and videos by the ministry’s Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab on his X handle on Friday.

The post read, “Officials from the enforcement agencies under the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources intensified the mopping up of banned styrofoam food packs across markets in the state.

“Environmental enforcement team yesterday raided shops across Ikorodu Local Government, Mosan Okunola Local Government, Badagry Local Government, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo Local Government, Somolu, Eti-Ota East LCDA, Eti-Osa Local Government, and some other parts of the state.”

Wahab further stated that all the seized items will be burnt.

He added, “All the seized items have been evacuated to Marini TLS in Bolade, Oshodi, for incineration.

“We implore all Lagosians to stop the use, distribution, and sale of the banned styrofoam packs in all parts of the state.”

The State Government, through the Ministry of in January announced the ban on the use and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state.
