Phil Foden has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Year for his performances in spearheading Manchester City’s pursuit of the Premier League title.
Foden has been pivotal in City’s Pep Guardiola’s side throughout the season.
So far this season, the England international has scored 17 goals.
If Man City wins the top-flight this season, Foden would have helped the club win a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Man City’s title win relies on them beating West Ham on Sunday as Arsenal closely sit in second place with two points behind.
Foden said: “To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of.
“The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.
“Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season.
“I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.”
Foden was nominated alongside Man City team-mate and last year’s winner Erling Haaland, as well as Arsenal duo Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.
Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer were also nominated for the award.
Palmer was announced as the Young Player of the Year on Friday.
Foden becomes the fifth consecutive Man City player to win the Player of the Year award.
