Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have conducted a search operation at the Lagos headquarters of the Dangote Group.

According to sources, the EFCC officials arrived at the Dangote head office on Thursday afternoon and commenced a search.

An anonymous source stated that the EFCC is probing foreign exchange allocations made to around 52 companies, including Dangote Plc, during the tenure of former Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor Godwin Emefiele.

“The commission is investigating Dangote and about 51 other big companies. The allocations were allegedly not approved by former President Muhammadu Buhari,” the source claimed.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the presence of operatives at the Dangote office but declined to discuss the purpose of the operation.

“I can confirm our men are there, but I can’t comment on the reason for their presence,” Oyewale said.

Neither the EFCC nor Dangote Group has officially stated if the search is related to the alleged foreign exchange allocations probe.

The EFCC operation comes amid previous reports that the agency is investigating Dangote Group over allegations of sugar price manipulation. The company has strongly denied any wrongdoing.
