In the Lagos State town of Coker, a mob has lynched a suspected thief.
The suspect was said to have attempted to deprive some commuters on their way to work of their goods in the early hours of Monday morning when he was discovered.
The culprit allegedly bolted but was apprehended by the enraged mob.
A witness, who identified himself as Ibukun, said the crowd thrashed the guy until he passed out.
He claimed that the mob lit him on fire later and that the incident occurred at 6 a.m.
Ibukun said, “On my way to work this morning, I boarded a bus to Orile from Mile 2. We were approaching the Coker area when I saw a crowd. Apparently, an incident had happened which caused a mild traffic jam that slowed down vehicular movements on the Mile 2-Orile Expressway.
“By the time we moved closer to the gathering, I saw the fire burning on a portion of the road and as our vehicle slowly advanced to the direction, I saw a young man in the midst of the fire. There was firewood around him being used to light the fire and some guys were with sticks supervising that his body got burnt.”
The witness added that the neighbourhood was known for robberies and that this was the second time in a year that he had seen such a gruesome scene.
The CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the state Police Public Relations Officer, was reached out to but he promised to get back later.
