30-year-old man docked for alleged reckless driving

A 30-year-old man, Mohammed Umar, was on Monday arraigned by the Police at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged reckless driving and malicious damage.

Umar, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a two-count charge of reckless driving and malicious damage, for which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASPClement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 12, at about 2:30 pm before CCECC Ltd., Trade Fair Complex, along the Badagry Expressway.

Okuoimose said that the defendant allegedly drove one Howo truck with registration number GWA549 YR on the highway in a reckless manner without regard to other road users.

He also stated that the defendant caused malicious damage to 16 precast elements, property of CCECC Nigeria Ltd., valued at N3.2million.

The prosecutor, in his statement, mentioned that the offences violate Sections 51 and 317 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos state, 2018.

The chief magistrate, Mr Fadaunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000.00 with two sureties in like sum.

Adefioye adjourned the case until Oct. 18 for mention.
