Nigeria’s Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, made the submission on Tuesday in an interview on Good Morning Nigeria, a breakfast show on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

He claimed that corruption is indeed declining under the leadership of President Buhari and the government recovered looted funds stashed in foreign countries.

Malami stated that the right model adopted by the President in tackling corruption was responsible for these achievements recorded so far.

The minister said that the 2019 report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) showed that corruption is declining in Nigeria, adding that the President was adjudged as the champion of anti-corruption by the African Union (AU).

The minister disclosed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recorded about 2,000 convictions in 2021 compared to 103 convictions achieved in 2015.

He stated that the legislative framework is being reviewed to achieve the desired result in the fight against corruption.
