Linda Mabi-Praise, head pastor of Temple of Praise Women Fellowship Global in Surulere, Lagos, was sentenced to five years in prison for committing a N128 million fraud.

Following her arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Mabi-Praise was convicted and sentenced by Justice S.O. Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja.

According to a statement on the EFCC’s website, the prophetess, who was charged with three counts, was alleged to have obtained the said sum dishonestly from Accelsor Investment Partners Limited under the guise that her company, Mutano Energy Ltd., was an accredited oil and gas dealer and that she was into oil and gas dealership.

She was also accused of issuing fake cheques to offset the funds.

Meanwhile, when Mabi-Praise was arraigned in March 2019, she pled “not guilty” to the accusations, prompting the trial to begin.

During the trial, the EFCC’s counsel, Franklin Ofoma, called two witnesses and presented various documentary pieces of evidence to prove the case against the defendant.

In his decision, Justice Solebo found her guilty of counts one and three, which involved acquiring money under false pretences and issuing fake cheques.

The trial judge ruled that the prosecution established the claims of false pretences and fake cheques “beyond reasonable doubt.”

Mumuni Qudus, the defence counsel, begged the Court to temper justice with mercy and to offer the mother of two a “second chance.”

After hearing from Mabi- Praise’s attorney, Justice Solebo sentenced her to three years in prison on count one and two years in prison on count three, both to run concurrently.
