The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed due to ongoing investigations, was apprehended alongside another individual in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, while allegedly attempting to sell the stolen vehicle.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Awka on Wednesday.

He said the arrest followed a swift intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, which led to the interception of the suspects and recovery of the vehicle.

According to him, the driver allegedly conspired with other accomplices still at large to murder the cleric before fleeing to Anambra State with the SUV in a bid to sell it.

“The operatives of the Anambra State Police Command arrested a domestic staff member allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of his employer,” Orutugu said.

He added that preliminary investigations indicated the suspect worked closely with unidentified criminal collaborators to carry out the attack before escaping with the vehicle.

The police commissioner stated that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected criminal gang and fully unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Orutugu also urged members of the public to exercise caution when recruiting domestic staff, drivers and household employees, stressing the importance of proper background checks and verification.

He assured residents that the command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and the protection of lives and property across the state.
