The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been applauded by the Awori Descendants of the Olowogbowo community for appointing Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello as the Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).
At a press conference hosted by the Awori Descendants, the Akogun of Oto-Awori Kingdom, Chief Kehinde Dawodu stated that the appointment of Prof. Olatunji-Bello has strengthened the faith of Lagosians, particularly Awori descendants, in the governor’s uprightness and ability to be firm and uncompromising.
“We want to commend the governor for yielding to the wish of the people and particularly for adhering to the core values of academic excellence, accountability, humility, integrity, transparency and patience in appointing the Vice-Chancellor”
“Having been appointed the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of LASU, we assert that our daughter, Ibiyemi, an Awori by descendant will in no distant further transform LASU to a greater height that would rank the university as the best in Africa”, he said.
He also urged the state governor to provide the university with the best possible support and assistance so that the new VC may effectively carry out her duties, adding that Awori descendants and Lagosians, in general, will do everything possible to promote the institution’s rapid development in all facets.
“The VC exudes the values of Awori descent which is rooted in hard work, diligence and transparency and it is these values that have paved the way for her to the top. Lagosians should support her so we can grow in Lagos state”, Dawodu added.
