The Lagos State Government, in cooperation with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), will hold the 14th annual ‘Walk for Nature’ on Saturday at the same time in the Ikeja local government, Surulere local government and Ikoyi Obalende Local Council Development Area.

The event will highlight the sustainability of a healthier and safer environment.

At a press conference in Alausa, Ikeja, yesterday the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello, called for a  change of behaviour in favour of the conservation of biodiversity.

He said that if people conserve the biodiversity around them, they are saving their lives.

Bello said the state government had been working with the NCF since 2008 to educate citizens about the importance of protecting the environment and conserving nature through the annual “Walk for Nature” programme.

Mrs Ronke Odeneye, Permanent Secretary, Office of Environment, who represented Bello, said the government is seeking, through partnership and collaboration with the private sector and non-governmental organizations in line with the SDG 17, to spark interest in conservation issues and activities that exert pressure on biodiversity and wildlife.

NCF Chairman Mr Ede Dafinone said the programme aims to create more awareness and to mount pressure on biodiversity and wildlife topics among the citizens.
