Lagos Ministry of Agriculture generates over N1 billion IGR — Commissioner

Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya has told reporters at the Lagos food festival held at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island on Sunday that the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture generated a revenue of over one billion naira in 2021.

Themed, ‘A taste of Lagos’, the event featured Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the special guest of honour and other Nigerian celebrities.

In recognition of the ministry’s officials for exceeding expectations during 2021 to ensure food security in the state, Olusanya said the ministry was able to reach the amount for the first time with the support of its staff, thus the need to recognize and award 13 staff members.

She said, “I appreciate those that have gone over and beyond in this year 2021 to deliver food security to the state. For the first time in the history of the ministry, we have crossed over a billion naira in IGR. It has never happened before. We need to appreciate our people. We feel that it’s imperative that we give them some form of appreciation.”

On the significance of the food festival, Olusanya noted that it is a platform for Lagosians to relax and unwind with their families during the festive season while reiterating that it is a follow-up on the success story of the five editions of the annual Lagos Seafood Festival that were held between 2012 and 2020.
