A motorcyclist (okada rider) arrested by the police last Friday at the Ikate Roundabout, Lekki, Lagos, after being run over by his victim’s car in traffic, revealed that he earns N50,000 per operation.

The alleged motorcyclist Segun Oye (18) alias Assignment and his accomplice Ikechukwu Ubani (19) were arrested around 5:00 a.m. by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) at the Ikate Roundabout, Lekki.

Oye, who was tried in the Lagos State Mobile Court on Friday and sentenced to 12 months in prison along with his accomplice added that aside from Ikechukwu Ubani, he transported traffic robbers to scenes of robbery and transport them back after the operation.

He added that before Ubani contacted him, he took three people from Ibadan to Ajah and Ikate to rob in traffic and steal cell phones at night and early in the morning, claiming that his contract fee was N50,000.

Noting that Ubani hired him when his customers moved from Lagos to Ibadan, he added that he would take him from Costain, where they both live, to Ajah, Lekki and Ikate to steal in traffic.

Ikechukwu Ubani, who is an ex-convict, stated in his confession that he had gone from pickpocketing to robbery in traffic in July 2021 and emphasized that he had only used Oye seven times.

He said that after a robbery in Ikate traffic last Friday, he thought he had succeeded until a vehicle crashed into the okada that he had boarded to escape.

The suspect had been turned over to officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service.
