Badagry celebrates 20th spelling bee anniversary


    At the Marriage Registry Hall of Suntan Beach, the Badagry West Local Council Development Area celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Spelling Bee Competition with fanfare and prizes for the participating children.

    Mrs Gbenu Esther, the council chairman’s wife, congratulated the preliminaries winners and advised the students to do their best to win at the state level.

    She said: “I enjoin you to put in your best to make this council proud at the state level by achieving the ultimate goal of becoming the One-Day Governor of Lagos state.”

    She issued a warning to parents and guardians about child abuse, stating that the government will not hesitate to prosecute offenders.

    She also cautioned the students to shun cultism and violence.

    The pupils were given gifts by Vice-Chairman Rauf Yemaren, who was representing the Chairman, Gbenu Joseph. He reminded the audience that education is the foundation of modern civilisation and technology. The primary category was won by Oni Ezekiel, Umoh Miracle, and Timothy Oluwaseun, while the secondary category was won by Juliana Sewanu, Abiodun Hibatulah, and Obi Abraham.
