World Sight Day: Lions Clubs Nigeria to conduct 50 free eye surgeries

The International Association of Lions Clubs, District 404B2, Nigeria, will today October 14, perform about 50 free restorative surgeries, and carry out vision-related projects such as eye exams, donation of glasses, eye health education programs and donation of aids for the visually impaired.

During a walk by members of the Ikeja Awareness Club, Lagos State, on Wednesday, Leon Kayode Oshunuga, the district governor, said they would use the day to raise awareness of the importance of eye health and the need for eye services in high quality for everyone.

He explained that Lions World Sight Day is traditionally held in October, with the theme of this year’s event being “Love your eyes.”

He encouraged Lagos state residents to come out in large numbers to benefit from the program.

Oshunuga announced that the event would be held in various locations in the Southwest. For Lagos State; Community Road, Allen Avenue, Onigbongbo LCDA, Ikeja, Osun State; Oluwo Palace, Iwo, and School for the Blind, Ikare, Ekiti State.

Dr Kelechi Onyedi, a member of the event planning committee, also said there will be a conference on eye care, adding that attendees will receive free medication and eye drops.
