Sevilla head coach, Jose Luis Mendilibar has said his team defeated Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second-leg tie on Thursday night because his players believe in what he asked them to do.
Manchester were beaten 3-0 in Spain after Youssef En-Nesyri scored a brace and Loic Bade’s goal, pegging the aggregate at 5-2 having drawn 2-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Movistar+ after the game, Mendilibar expressed his happiness to be leading the current Sevilla squad to their historic victory over Manchester United.
He said, “I am grateful for having the opportunity to be in charge of this game.
“I’m thankful to the players, they have believed in what I have asked of them.”
Sevilla will face Juventus in the semi-final clash of the Europa League in May.
