The Lagos State Parking Authority(LASPA) has reacted to a trending video depicting that vehicles parked in front of some commercial business venues on Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere, were clamped by the agency.

In the two minutes, 19 seconds video that circulated last week, which showed some vehicles clamped, a male voice was heard querying why LASPA would clamp the vehicles that were parked at business premises.

“How can somebody park like this and they’re locking their cars down,” the voice said, adding that the car owners could be customers or owners of the buildings.

Some of the property mentioned and seen in the video included SLOT, King’s Plaza, FCMB, etc.

However, LASPA in its response clarified the circumstances leading to the clamping of the vehicles.

In a statement by its General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, dated Thursday, LASPA said: “The cars shown in the video belong to the occupiers of the property who, despite receiving demand notices for Year 2023 parking levies since June 2023, have refused to respond to the notices.”

The GM added that the authority’s warning with the inscription, ‘Warning! (Demand Notice Non-Compliance) liable to be clamped or towed—No Parking—Vehicles parked at owner’s risk’ was visibly posted on the walls of the property in question.

“Defaulters’ vehicles are only clamped until the levies are paid, or a letter of undertaking to commit to making the payment is issued by the defaulter to LASPA,” the statement noted.

LASPA cautioned the public against spreading misinformation about its activities, emphasizing that its actions aligned with the parking policies of the state.
