The Political Commission of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has openly criticized the Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, labeling him as a “drowning wannabe politrickster.”

According to the NLC, Abure no longer enjoys the trust of key party stakeholders and has repeatedly defied a court order regarding the party’s ownership.

In a statement signed by Comrade Titus Amba, Chairperson of the NLC Political Commission, and Comrade Chris Uyot, Secretary of the NLC Political Commission, the labor body reaffirmed its claim to the Labour Party.

The statement highlighted Abure’s alleged violation of a court judgment and an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-supervised agreement that required an all-inclusive National Convention for the Labour Party.

The NLC stressed its historical and legal ownership of the Labour Party, as backed by a March 20, 2018, judgment by Justice Gabriel Kolawole.

This judgment identified the NLC as the party’s rightful owner and called for a convention to address the issues introduced by individuals like Abure.

The statement emphasized the NLC’s commitment to reclaiming and repositioning the Labour Party as a political platform for genuine politicians aimed at positively impacting the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

The NLC asserts that no amount of criticism from Abure, who they claim has lost the confidence of crucial party stakeholders, will deter their efforts to regain control of what is legitimately theirs, especially with legal backing.
