Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday said the turnout of applicants for the position of police constables was low from Lagos, South East and South-South.
Frank Mba, the force spokesman in a statement, said that statistical analysis showed that 81,005 applications had been received nationwide as of January 7.
He added: ‘’Out of this figure, only 1,404 applications – less than 2% of the total applications – were received from the five states in the South East and 261 from Lagos State, with Anambra State having the least figure of 158 applicants.’’
Mba, however, announced an extension of the deadline for online registration in the ongoing recruitment exercise for 2021 for interested and eligible Nigerians into the Force. The portal will be closed this week but now will be open until January 22.
He appealed to religious leaders, local and state governments as well as other interest groups in the affected geopolitical zones and Lagos State to assist the Force by rallying their citizens and wards.
Appealing that they encourage them to take advantage of the opportunity to pursue a career as an officer in order to aid the zones and the state in reaching their quotas.
