Victor Boniface has continued his remarkable rise at Bayer Leverkusen, scoring five goals in eight games this season and impressing under Xabi Alonso’s guidance.
Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has continued his impressive form at Bayer Leverkusen, scoring five goals in his first eight games this season.
Following a standout performance last season, where he netted 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 34 matches despite battling injuries, Boniface remains pivotal for Xabi Alonso’s side.
His recent heroics came in the UEFA Champions League, where he scored the match-winner against AC Milan, further attracting the attention of European giants like Chelsea, who sent scouts to monitor his performance.
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has publicly stated that Boniface has the potential to reach the same level as legendary Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, praising his strength, movement in tight spaces, and ability to disrupt defences.
Alonso, however, noted areas for improvement, particularly in Boniface’s assertiveness in the box. The coach remains committed to helping the Ondo-born striker develop his decision-making and realise his full potential.
Boniface’s strong start to the season comes after helping Leverkusen win the Bundesliga title last year.
The 23-year-old also made his mark in the Champions League, scoring his first-ever goal in the competition during the 1-0 win over AC Milan.
Reflecting on the match, Boniface expressed pride in his performance and emphasised the importance of scoring in every game across all competitions.
Boniface’s meteoric rise over the past few years has been remarkable.
After stints in Norway with Bodø/Glimt and Belgium’s Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, he joined Leverkusen and quickly established himself as one of the top strikers in European football.
His strong performances have drawn interest from top clubs, and if he continues his form, a move to a larger European club may be on the horizon.
