Elon Musk has said Twitter Blue will probably “come back end of next week.”
The billionaire owner in a tweet on Saturday made this disclosure.
On Friday, Twitter paused its recently announced $8 blue check subscription service due to the rise in fake accounts that were impersonating and giving fake information.
Previously, the blue check mark was reserved for the verified accounts of politicians, celebrities, journalists, and other public figures, but earlier this week, Twitter launched a subscription service open to all to help grow its revenue as Musk battles to retain advertisers.
However on Friday, several users reported that the new subscription option for the blue verification check mark had disappeared, and several sources informed that the offering has been dropped.
“To combat impersonation, we’ve added an ‘Official’ label to some accounts,” Twitter’s support account – which has the “official” tag – tweeted on Friday.
Originally introduced on Wednesday but the label was removed by Musk just hours later.
On Thursday, in his first company wide email, Musk warned that Twitter would not be able to “survive the upcoming economic downturn” if it failed to boost subscription revenue to offset falling advertising income.
