President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ayodeji Gbeleyi as the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

Presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, announced the appointment in a statement on Saturday. Ngelale described Gbeleyi as a renowned financial expert and award-winning chartered accountant.

The new Director General brings over 30 years of post-qualification experience in various sectors, including manufacturing, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), investment and commercial banking, project finance, telecommunications, infrastructure, and public administration.

Gbeleyi previously served as the board chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and as the Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State from 2013 to 2015.

President Tinubu urged Gbeleyi to leverage his extensive experience and competence to enhance the BPE’s role as a national resource center for capacity building and the sustenance of reforms. He emphasized that Gbeleyi is expected to lead the BPE in promoting a competitive, private sector-driven economy, ensuring social accountability, and efficient deployment of public resources. Additionally, Tinubu highlighted the importance of advancing effective corporate governance and fiduciary discipline in both the public and private sectors.
