President Bola Tinubu has appointed Barrister Olatunji Bello, the immediate past Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, as the new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), pending Senate confirmation.
This appointment was announced in a press statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ajuri Ngelale.
Tunji Bello, a lawyer, administrator, and renowned journalist, previously served as Secretary to the Lagos State Government under Governor Akinwumi Ambode and was a two-term Commissioner for Environment in the state. He holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, where he also studied Law and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.
Bello began his career in journalism at Concord Newspapers in 1985, where he held positions including Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor, and Editor of National Concord. He is a recipient of the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship and was appointed Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001.
According to Ngelale, “The President expects that the new Chief Executive Officer of this important agency will ensure the holistic realization of the Commission’s mandate of protecting and promoting the interest and welfare of Nigerian consumers, and ensuring the adoption of measures to guarantee the safety and quality of goods and services.”
