It has been ten years since Dimgba Igwe, a beloved friend, brother, and journalist, tragically lost his life.

While jogging early one Saturday morning, he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Lagos. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

His passing hit hard, especially for his close friend and co-journalist, Mike Awoyinfa.

Reflecting on their shared bond, Mike recalls the pain and grief felt when he received the devastating news while abroad, watching his son graduate.

The shock of Dimgba’s sudden death was an unimaginable blow, leaving a void in the lives of those he left behind.

In honour of Dimgba’s legacy, Mike has committed to keeping his name alive, co-authoring books with Dimgba’s name proudly displayed. One such book, ’50 Nigeria’s Boardroom Leaders—Lessons on Corporate Governance and Strategy’, stands as a testament to their enduring partnership.

The tenth anniversary of Dimgba’s passing was marked with an event titled “Tabloid Journalism Yesterday, Today, and the Future,” attended by distinguished figures in Nigerian journalism.

Mike expresses his gratitude for the shared journey they embarked on, from founding ‘Weekend Concord’ to creating ‘The Sun newspaper’, both of which revolutionized Nigerian journalism.

Dimgba’s impact on the media landscape and his lasting influence continue to inspire, and his memory remains cherished.
