Lagos is the largest city in Nigeria and the sixth-largest city in the world. It is the nation’s economic and commercial capital, and among many other things, boasts of many tall buildings.
Today, we’ll be letting you in on some of the tallest buildings in Lagos.
1. NECOM house
NECOM House is the tallest building in Lagos. The 526 ft (160 m) building is located on 15, Marina Road, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria, and has 32 floors. The building which was completed in 1979 was formerly named NITEL Tower and before that, the NET Building.
The Nigerian External Communications a.k.a NECOM House remains the tallest building in Lagos, Nigeria, and in West Africa from 1979 till date.
2. Eko Champagne Pearl Tower
The 30 storey residential building, 439ft (134m) tall is located at the popular Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos. Completed in 2017, the massive edifice is a beautiful sight to behold and comprises of hundreds of apartments.
3. Union Bank Building
The Union Bank Headquarters is one of the tallest buildings in Lagos. It is also located in Lagos Island on 36, Marina road with a height of 407ft (124m). The building was completed in 1991 and is still in use as an office.
4. Eko Towers II
The 27 storey guest house owned by Eko Hotels is located on 14/15 Adekunbo Ademola street, Victoria Island. Standing at 388ft (118.3m) tall, it is one of the tallest buildings in Lagos and the tallest building in Victoria Island. It is just next to the Eko Towers, and serves as a hotel.
5. Famfa Oil Towers
Though still under construction, the proposed development is a 20 storey office development on a 5695sq.m parcel of land on Alfred Rewane Road in Ikoyi. Owned by Folorunso Alakija, Famfa Oil Towers is a skyscraper 338ft (103m) in height and would be completed soon.
6. Black Pearl Towers
The 26 storey building tower also located at Eko Atlantic City is a residential building and was completed in 2016. It is one of the Eko Pearl Towers, and stands at 370ft (113m) tall.
7. Independence House
The Independence House is an office building, located at Onikan, Lagos, close to Tafawa Balewa Square. It is a 25 storey building, and has housed major corporations and also the Defense headquarters under the Babangida administration and was commonly referred to as Defense House. In 1993, portions of it caught fire and since the incident, the building has not been managed properly.
8. Intercontinental Hotel
Popularly called Lagos Continental Hotel, and located at Victoria Island, this 17 storey building stands at 329.7ft (100.5m) tall. It was completed in 2013.
9. Central Bank of Nigeria (Lagos)
In 2009, the Central Bank of Nigeria decided to rebuild its 50-year old Lagos office. It was completed in 2013 and has 19 floors. It is located at Tinubu Square on Marina Road in Lagos, and stands at 328ft (100m) tall.
10. UBA House
The popular United Bank for Africa (UBA) head office located on Marina is undoubtedly one of the tallest buildings in Lagos. It is a sight to behold, and the apex of this building can be sighted from many parts of Lagos.
