On Tuesday, in the Anthony area of Lagos State, a serious accident involving a speeding truck and three other vehicles resulted in injuries to at least three individuals.
Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), provided details of the incident, confirming that the truck, due to brake failure, collided with two Volkswagen buses and a Nissan car, causing significant damage and injuries.
A video posted on LASTMA’s Facebook page depicted the aftermath of the collision, showcasing shattered windshields of the Volkswagen buses and notable damage to the Nissan car. Taofiq revealed that the injured victims were promptly rescued by LASTMA officials and taken to a nearby hospital for immediate medical care.
The accident, according to Taofiq, occurred when a Volvo six-tyre truck, bearing the license plate T-17138LA, lost control and rammed into the vehicles on the Anthony service lane heading toward Town Planning.
“Our officers were on the ground for rescue operations. Police officers from Mosafejo Police Station were also present to provide backup for the LASTMA team while the injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The vehicles were evacuated to the premises of the Mosafejo police station for further investigation,” Taofiq added.
In light of the incident, Taofiq issued a warning against negligence on the part of truck owners and drivers, which could lead to dangerous accidents.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining vehicles in proper working order to prevent such occurrences and stated that violators would be held accountable under the law.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Bakare Oki, also urged truck owners and drivers to ensure their vehicles are thoroughly checked and roadworthy to avoid future accidents and potential loss of life.
