Specialised training needed to boost real estate sector in Lagos State — Special Adviser

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, Barr. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, said that the Authority has identified the need to provide specialised training for practitioners in the state’s real estate sector.

Odunuga-Bakare noted that appropriate training tailored towards real estate activities will assist practitioners carry out real estate transactions in a way that aligns with the status of the State and in compliance with the provisions of the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory law.

She disclosed this recently during a media chat with newsmen in her office at the Secretariat, Alausa, emphasising the importance of aligning real estate transactions with the state’s standards and regulations.

The Special Adviser stated that the perceived fraudulent practices in the sector is as a result of the emergence of real estate practitioners in different parts of the state who do not have the necessary training and licenses to practice but are rather using real estate as a second fiddle to boost their income.

Speaking further on the initiative, Odunuga-Bakare averred that integrity and professionalism must be maintained within the real estate sector to safeguard the interests of both buyers and sellers.

“The government has identified the need to expose practitioners in the real estate sector to appropriate training. This training will ensure that transactions are conducted in a manner that upholds the status of Lagos State and complies with the provisions of the regulatory law”, she noted.

According to her, the training programme is expected to cover various aspects of real estate transactions, including legal frameworks, ethical standards, and industry best practices.

She submitted that by enhancing the knowledge and skills of practitioners, the government aims to promote a culture of compliance and accountability within the sector.

She also pointed out that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to promote sustainable development and foster a conducive environment for investment in Lagos State’s real estate market”.

“With the commitment of the Lagos State Government to ensure effective regulation and oversight, the planned training is poised to elevate the standards of real estate practices, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders involved”, the Special Adviser stated.
