Senator Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the defunct 8th Assembly, rebuffed El-Rufai’s claims, pointing out his own financial mismanagement during his tenure as governor.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Sani accused El-Rufai of committing severe financial and tyrannical offenses during his eight years in office.
Sani particularly criticized El-Rufai for receiving substantial funds from the Muhammadu Buhari administration without disclosing them to the people of Kaduna State.
“Let’s recall history and find the answers,” Sani wrote, listing several instances in which El-Rufai allegedly accepted significant sums of money without transparency.
According to Sani, El-Rufai received billions in excess crude funds, ecological funds, special grants from Buhari via the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and stamp duties, but never disclosed these funds to the public.
Sani went further to question the usage of a $350 million World Bank loan, stating that no one in Kaduna could confidently swear to how the funds were spent.
He called for a probe by the Kaduna Assembly into the matter.
In his critique, Sani remarked, “If the present governor refused to disclose the mythical ‘150 billion’, he must have learned it from the ex-governor.
The ex-Governor is coming to equity with dirty hands.” He also alluded to the possibility that both governors may be driven by financial motives, questioning if El-Rufai’s support for President Buhari was similarly motivated by financial gain.
