The Lagos State Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has increased its security measures in anticipation of a planned protest against the anti-graft agency.
Reports say operatives from the Lagos State Anti-Crime Outfit—Rapid Response Squad—and personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) have been deployed to secure all routes leading to the EFCC office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The DSS operatives are present with patrol vans, heavy anti-riot gun trucks, and Black Marias.

This heightened security comes after Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, stated on Thursday that intelligence from some Civil Society Organisations indicated that a former governor and two ministers were orchestrating the protest against the anti-corruption agency.
Also, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Wednesday announced it had mobilised 4,000 personnel nationwide to monitor the activities of the group organizing the protest.
Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of NOA, said in a statement, “A group has been recruiting young Nigerians, including students, through social media to protest against the EFCC’s operational activities, particularly in enforcing cybercrime laws. The promoters of the uprising seek to destabilise the country and cut short investigations into their nefarious activities.”
The increased security presence aims to ensure the safety of the EFCC operations and maintain order amidst the planned protest.
