Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has reiterated the commitment of his administration to enhancing the livability of Lagosians by prioritising the provision of infrastructure.
This is because of the role infrastructure plays in facilitating economic growth and improving the people’s living standards.
The governor made these remarks at the commissioning of the newly constructed 5-A-Side Astro-Turf Football Pitch with Parking Space at the Ijeh, Dolphin Road and reconstruction of Olawale Dawodu Street, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat stated that the commissioning will improve the aesthetic of Ikoyi as well as have a direct bearing on the socio-economic development of not only the residents of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA) but the state as a whole.
He noted that since the inception of his government in 2019, his administration has invested in the construction and upgrade of several roads such as Reeves Olulegbale, Thompson Road, Oyinkansola Abayomi and many more which has resulted in improved connectivity and a reduction in travel time.
He elucidated that his government will continue to forge a development-oriented partnership with local government and local council development areas to ensure that the dividends of democracy trickle down to every part of the state and that no one is left behind.
Commending the Chairman and Management of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Sanwo-Olu said “The LCDA Chairman, Mr. Fuad Atanda-Lawal taking up the responsibility of rehabilitating Olawale Dawodu Road and constructing the 5-A-side Astro-Turf Football Pitch, which consists of parking and open spaces for recreation, is an example of what good governance and the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people is all about”.
According to the Governor, the newly commissioned Football pitch was once used as a dump site, posing health risks to the residents, adding that the complete transformation of the space to a beautiful environment with facilities for recreation and sport is quite commendable.
Similarly, in his welcome address, the Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Mr. Fuad Atanda-Lawal stated that his administration firmly believes that the well-being and happiness of his community members are of paramount importance.
He added that his government has consistently prioritised providing excellent facilities for the residents, noting that in 2019, we embarked on a programme to transform unused space in our community into vibrant recreational areas such as Ikoyi Recreational Park and with an array of amenities which includes an outdoor gym, a football pitch, a basketball court and a playing ground for the children. This programme has turned a once-neglected area into a lively and welcoming space for residents of all ages.
