The governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has threatened legal action against event centres that violate the state’s safety laws and guidelines.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, his Special Adviser on Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, issued this warning on Wednesday at a forum with event managers on Victoria Island in Lagos and organized in collaboration with AQAATA Safety Company.

He said: “The government is not lenient in prosecuting offenders of the event industry because we need to understand that change is something that people are not ready to imbibe.

“Lagos State is doing a lot to ensure the health and safety of citizens and residents of the state and I am quite optimistic that this gathering of various heads at the hotel and event planning industry would go a long way in acting as checks and balances to those to be violators and its consequences.”

The Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, said, “This deliberation of this magnitude would assist the government in fashioning out regulations and enforcement on whoever that contravenes, hence the gathering of various stakeholders to discuss and proffer solutions to any likely challenges that may arise.”
