A new book titled The Power of One Man: How the Soludo-Engineered Consolidation Transformed Nigerian Banks to Global Players will be unveiled in Lagos at 11 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
The event marks the 20th anniversary of the significant banking reforms that resulted in the consolidation of Nigerian banks, raising their capital base to a minimum of N25 billion.
The unveiling will take place at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
Written by journalist and economist, Ray Echebiri, the book provides a detailed account of the events in the Nigerian economy and banking industry leading to the 2004/2005 consolidation.
It highlights how these reforms transformed the Nigerian banking sector, elevating it to a level comparable to that of the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
The launch event will be chaired by Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo, an esteemed economist with extensive experience, including serving as Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The event will feature several prominent persons, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, under whose administration the banking consolidation was implemented; Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the current governor of Anambra State and the architect of the 2004/2005 banking reforms; and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State.
Other notable attendees expected at the event include Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; Ernest Ebi, former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; other CBN Deputy Governors who served with Professor Soludo; eminent bankers; industry leaders; government officials; academics; and media executives.
