The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his emergence as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

In a statement dated 10 July 2023 and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, the state governor described the development as a significant affirmation of Nigeria’s leadership in West Africa and Africa.

Tinubu was announced as the chairman of ECOWAS at the 63rd Ordinary Session on Sunday in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.

Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in the trust placed on the President by his colleagues to lead the critical coalition, adding that this will manifest in effective collaboration and practical solutions to the challenges of economic growth, sustainable development, and trans-border security issues.

Sanwo-Olu said, “On behalf of the people of Lagos State, I want to congratulate our leader, mentor, and pathfinder, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on this remarkable achievement as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

“We have absolute confidence that you will perform exceptionally well in your new role as the Head of the important regional organisation and we are happy to be associated with you.”
