The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is a source of strength that promotes business collaborations and opens doors for expansion over the Atlantic.
The Governor revealed this at the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce’s (NBCC) 2023 Presidential Inauguration luncheon, which was recently held in Lagos.
According to Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade & Investment, Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, the NBCC is crucial in determining the economic conditions of both Britain and Nigeria.
Sanwo-Olu said, “The Chamber must continue to foster an environment that encourages investment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Its commitment to ethical business practices, corporate social responsibility, and environmental sustainability will not only benefit our economies but also contribute to the well-being of our citizens.”
Mr Governor explained that his administration’s historic participation in the just-completed Lord’s Mayor Show in London as well as landing the Lagos International Financial Centre in the same city of London was a significant step towards strengthening economic ties with the British private sector.
“Our participation at this show which is the first by any African city provided us a unique opportunity to engage with the UK’s private sector and business community where we reiterated the fact that Lagos is open for business and more investments. We are confident that we can continue to count on the collaboration and support of the NBCC as we strive to consolidate our efforts to achieve the desire of making Lagos the most preferred destination for local and foreign investments in Africa,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated the new President of the Chamber, Mr Ray Alley and charged members to embrace the digital era, leveraging technology to connect businesses, streamline processes, and create new avenues for trade, saying “The world is more interconnected than ever, and it is our responsibility to harness this connectivity for the greater good”.
“In the ever-evolving landscape of global commerce, it is imperative that we embrace innovation, adaptability, and inclusivity. The challenges we face are dynamic, but they are also opportunities for growth and transformation. As we move forward, let us be guided by a spirit of collaboration, recognising that our collective strength lies in our unity,” he said.
