The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged doctorate degree holders of Triune Biblical University (TBU) to live worthy of their new status and epitomise right values.
Sanwo-Olu gave this admonition at the university’s yearly conferment of honourary doctorate degrees award for 2023.
Represented by the Director of the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Dr, Mrs Yemisi Omoloye, Sanwo-Olu said: “I will like you to live worthy of the honour bestowed upon you by the University and would like you to know that TBU has being approved to operate in the State, having obtained all the necessary documentations and has continue to garner commendation since they commenced operations.”
In his welcome address, the President and Chancellor of the University, Revd, Prof Adeleke Durojaiye said that to have wisdom and understanding is better than having silver or gold.
“Nice and expensive items can be enjoyable, but there are very few things in life that can never be taken away, which will never go out of style, making you a truly better person, Education is one of those things. There is nothing as golden as Education,” he advised.
Also speaking, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ade Ayeni noted that, it is part of the vision of Durojaye to eradicate illiteracy and poverty through provision of Education in Nigeria and in Africa.
“TBU has the highest number of courses in the world and E-books library beyond theology. Our certificate is recognised globally and our school fees are low compared with other Nigerian private universities. Graduates from TBU are trained not to be looking for job but to be employers of labour,” he stated adding that it is part of their vision to identify men and women who have contributed to the community and Human development and to give them award base on Integrity and merits.
A recipient of the award, CEO Rocket Petroleum and Energy Resources Limited and Safic Shipping and Tankers Limited, Dr. Smart Ogbonna said, his award of honourary doctorate degree in Business Administration, stems from his success in the business world, managing two companies and his humanitarian gestures that has touched several lives.
“Aside my involvement with business, I’m also a philanthropist who is passionate about the less privileged lending supports the best way I can, I build homes for widows, offer academic scholarships to indigent students, and paying medical bills and many other humanitarian supports,” he said.
