The Africa Peace Concert raised $239,000 to support the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre’s mission of promoting peace and conflict resolution.

Rotary Uganda, in collaboration with the Rotary Foundation, hosted the 4th Edition of the Africa Peace Concert at Nsambya Gardens, raising an impressive $239,000.

The Africa Peace Concert, an annual event, serves as a platform for advancing peace initiatives both locally and globally.

This year’s ambitious goal of raising over $500,000 highlights Rotary’s commitment to addressing pressing issues such as gender-based violence, insecurity, and food insecurity.

Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick graced the event and highlighted Rotary’s unwavering dedication to global peace. “Peace is at the heart of Rotary’s mission.

Through our Global Peace Fellowship program, we have trained thousands of peacebuilders and supported grassroots initiatives addressing the root causes of conflict.

The Africa Peace Concert unites humanity in the pursuit of a peaceful world,” she stated.

Rotary awards up to 151 fully funded fellowships annually, offering leaders from diverse sectors—including the military, NGOs, law, and media—opportunities to study at Peace Centres in countries such as Botswana, Cameroon, and Australia.

These fellowships combine academic learning with practical experiences, including fieldwork in communities, to address challenges like hunger, gender-based violence, and disunity.

Joe Nuwamanya, Chairperson of the Africa Peace Concert 2025, expressed gratitude for the support that made this year’s event a success.

“Although our target was $500,000, the $239,000 raised reflects the unity and determination of the Rotarian community and partners to support the peace agenda,” he noted.

He praised the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre for its pivotal role in nurturing peace leaders.

“In a world grappling with conflict and insecurity, the Centre shines as a beacon of hope, offering fully funded fellowships to leaders committed to making a difference,” he added.

The event featured a stellar performance by Uganda’s legendary girl pop group Blu*3, adding a lively atmosphere to the evening.

Attendees enjoyed the entertainment while contributing to the noble cause of global peacebuilding. All proceeds from ticket sales will directly support the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre’s initiatives.

The success of the Africa Peace Concert was made possible by the generosity of key partners, including Uganda Communications Commission, Centenary Bank, Roke Telkom, Britam Insurance, and others. Their support underscores the collective effort required to build a more peaceful world.

The 5th Edition of the Africa Peace Concert is scheduled for 1st November 2025, promising another impactful event that will continue Rotary Uganda’s mission of fostering peace and resilience in communities across Africa.
