On Wednesday, the House of Representatives demanded that the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) be looked into for unbalanced recruitment practices.
The Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) were encouraged by the House to halt any recruiting or employment if it was determined that it did not adhere to federal character regulations.
Also, it instructed the Committees on Petroleum Upstream and Federal Character to look into the uneven hiring practices of NEITI and NUPRC and provide a report within three (3) weeks.
This came after the Hon. Ibrahim Muhammed Hafiz Kawu’s proposal was adopted.
The House observes that the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s legislation serves as the direction and regulation for both the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
The House is aware that the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) have started a number of job and recruitment campaigns.
The public uproar that the recruitment and employment efforts have been focused on a specific state or region of the nation without adhering to the principles of the Federal Character, fairness, equity, and justice has the House concerned.
