Real Madrid thrash Barcelona to reach Copa del Rey final

Real Madrid are through to the finals of Copa del Rey after thumping overturning their first-leg 1-0 loss with a 4-0 win over Barcelona at Camp Nou.

In the stoppage time of the first half, Vinícius Jr. levelled the tie with a goal and Karim Benzema’s hat-trick in the second half guided Carlo Ancelotti’s side to victory.

Although Xavi’s side started the game with confidence, having won three Clásicos back to back, Los Blancos who are keen on winning another trophy outside the La Liga edged out Blaugrana in a masterclass game.

Benzema stole the show with his three goals in 30 minutes to seal a famous win in Barcelona’s own backyard.

The Balon d’Or winner became the second Real Madrid player since Ferenc Puskás in 1963 to score a hat-trick at Camp Nou.

Ancelotti in a post-match interview hailed his team’s performance as “a complete match.”

“If you don’t make it complete, you can’t win 0-4 here,” Ancelotti said, per Reuters. “In the first half, we had difficulties, but the first goal changes the dynamics of the whole match.

“It’s a game in which personality and experience is a very important aspect. We mixed the energy of Rodrygo, [Federico] Valverde and [Eduardo] Camavinga with the experience of Vini, [Luka] Modric, [Toni] Kroos. They played a spectacular game.”
