RCCG pastor jailed for fraudulently obtaining $1.6m

A Pastor, Ayodeji Ibrahim Oluokun has been convicted and sentenced to two years in prison by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos.

Pastor Oluokun who is an assistant pastor of the Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, Victoria Island, Lagos State, was jailed on Tuesday.

His conviction came, consequent upon his arraignment by the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), alongside his company, Peak Petroleum Industry Nigeria Limited, on an amended six-count charge bordering on the issuance of dud cheques, stealing, and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of $1.6 million on January 19, 2019.

The offences contravened Sections 1(1) (b) of the Dishonoured Cheques (Offences) Act, Cap D 11 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and Section 285 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences.

Justice Taiwo, in her judgment, ordered the convict to make restitution of 1.6 million dollars to the nominal complainant within 18 months.
