Actor, Alec Baldwin has reportedly fired a prop gun that killed cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and injured director, Joel Souza.
This incident occurred on Thursday, 21st October at the Bonanza Creek ranch outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where a movie, ‘Rust’ was being filmed.
According to reports, the 42-year-old woman, Halyna Hutchins was shot by actor and producer, Alec Baldwin while working on the movie set as a cinematographer.
Soon after the incident took place, Santa Fe County deputies were called to the scene. Hutchins was rushed to the University of New Mexico Hospital by helicopter where she died.
Her death was confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.
The movie director, Souza has been discharged from the hospital after treatment.
Following the shooting, the filming of the movie has been halted.
The Sheriff’s office said that no charges have been filed and they are investigating the shooting and interviewing witnesses.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office said in a statement that Hutchins and Souza were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by 68-year-old Baldwin, who is the producer and actor for the new film, which is about an accidental killing. He also said that the investigation remains open and active.
