The President and Chairman of the Council of the African Association of Polymer Scientists and Engineers, Prof Paul Mamza, has said that for Nigeria to be at par with the new global trends, the Federal Government must prioritize and invest in chemical and technological research.
Mamza, who stated this at the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria, Kaduna State, described Nigeria’s current economic state as sad and urged the government to explore human resources in the area of science and technology, especially chemical technology to achieve economic prosperity.
The don also pleaded with the federal government to create a conducive environment to ensure the “revival of the ailing chemical industries in Nigeria.”
He said: “With the new global trends and universal paradigm shift to knowledge-based economic interventions, the Nigerian government must prioritize and invest heavily in science and technology, especially in the area of chemical technology research and development if Nigeria must stand a chance to be counted amongst the comity of progressive nations.
