Prioritise entrepreneurship, innovation at all levels of education — Don advises govt

A professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management, at the University of Lagos, Sunday Adebisi, has advised the three tiers of government to prioritize entrepreneurship and innovation at all levels of education in the country.

The first occupier of Dr Mike Adenuga Jr. Professorial Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies gave the advice, according to a statement on Saturday during the special lecture of the Professorial Chair titled, ‘Revolutionizing the Nigerian Economy to Create Jobs and Sustainable Wealth,’ which he delivered at the University of Lagos.

Adebisi posited that the deliberate intention to embrace everything entrepreneurship will bring about appreciable value creation in the country and alleviate deprivation, hunger, unemployment, and the “japa” syndrome among youths.

He said: “The government should identify possible innovations in the areas of their strength and motivate the citizens to pursue enterprise opportunities there.

“The three tiers of government must make a deliberate effort to support the democratisation of innovation and entrepreneurship from the next academic session in all levels of education in Nigeria with a good monitoring team at all levels.”

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, commended Dr Mike Adenuga for his partnership with the university to enhance the frontiers of entrepreneurial academic knowledge and skills acquisition through the endowment.

“The drive of the Board of Trustees of the Adenuga Professorial Chair is moving the university steadily towards the realization of the shared dream of the donor and the university which is to use the chair to collectively explore innovative pathways that would not only address economic challenges we face but also pave way for sustainable and prosperous future for our youths,” she noted.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of Dr Adenuga Professorial Chair, Professor Taiwo Osipitan, explained that the lecture was conceptualized to integrate entrepreneurship issues and subsequently create gainful employment in the country.
