Speaking at the groundbreaking event, President Tinubu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing the armed forces with the tools and resources necessary to ensure national security and uphold democracy.

The ceremony symbolised a renewed commitment to Nigeria’s armed forces, with the President praising the unwavering dedication and resilience of military personnel.

He highlighted their vital role in safeguarding the nation and addressing evolving security challenges.

“Our armed forces stand as the backbone of our national security architecture,” Tinubu said.

“This complex will serve as a national monument, reflecting the respect and admiration of a grateful nation for your sacrifices.”

The current Defence Headquarters in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, has served as a temporary facility for over three decades.

President Tinubu emphasised the need for a modern and comprehensive infrastructure, better equipped to address the growing demands on the military.

The new Armed Forces Complex will feature advanced facilities to enhance operational effectiveness and foster excellence.

Tinubu also announced the display of locally assembled Tactical Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) at the event.

Produced through collaborations involving the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria and private entities such as ProForce, these vehicles underscore the strides made in Nigeria’s defence manufacturing sector.

“These vehicles not only improve operational efficiency but also bolster our economy,” Tinubu stated.

He commended the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian military-industrial complex and its contributions to domestic defence capabilities.

The President promised to ensure the project’s swift completion within his administration and encouraged collective support for its success.

“Let us embrace this moment with hope and unity as we work towards a stronger and more secure Nigeria,” he urged.

The groundbreaking ceremony, coming shortly after Armed Forces Remembrance Day, serves as a tribute to the fallen, the injured, and the serving members of the armed forces, celebrating their invaluable contributions to national peace and security.
