Police rescue 19-year-old lady from suicide attempt in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has said a 19-year-old lady was rescued from an attempted suicide in Lagos on June 29.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Command, disclosed that operatives of the Ikorodu Area Command intervened after receiving a tip-off from a concerned citizen about the young woman attempting to ingest a harmful chemical, Sniper.

“Promptly responding to the tip-off, officers were dispatched to the scene where the girl was located and prevented from causing herself harm,” Hundeyin stated.

The rescued woman, whose identity remains confidential, revealed she was driven to the brink of suicide due to severe emotional distress.

She disclosed that she was impregnated by a man who then refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy. Furthermore, she had been scammed of her earnings from her Point of Sale (POS) business by a fraudster, exacerbating her emotional and financial struggles.

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the woman’s ordeal and is providing her with necessary psychological support. Hundeyin emphasized,

“The young woman is currently receiving necessary psychological support while investigation is underway to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in her predicament.

The command also highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and encourages anyone facing similar challenges to seek help promptly.”
