Police dispersed Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters protesting outside the National Assembly following allegations of harassment against Senate President Akpabio
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force intervened this morning to disperse a crowd of supporters of the Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, outside the National Assembly Complex.
The supporters, who had gathered at the assembly gate as early as 8 AM, were protesting in support of the lawmaker during the Senate’s plenary session and hearing by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

Police officers deployed tear gas to disperse the protesters and prevent a potential breakdown of law and order.
The protesters, initially stationed at the assembly gate, were later seen moving to the Unity Fountain to continue their demonstration.
This protest comes amid ongoing tensions between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The Kogi lawmaker had previously clashed with Akpabio over seating arrangements on the floor of the Senate on February 20, resulting in her referral to the Senate Ethics Committee.
Last Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and maligning her after she allegedly rejected his sexual advances.
The controversy surrounding the two prominent political figures has escalated, drawing attention to issues of misconduct and power dynamics within the Senate.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains unclear how the Senate will address the accusations and the ongoing protests.
