The Nigerian Police Force has officially prohibited the use of Point Of Sale (POS) systems and other electronic transaction devices in all police stations and facilities across the country.
In a statement released on Monday, Force Spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi explained that the measure is a response to widespread concerns over potential illegal activities conducted through POS within police precincts.
Adejobi emphasized that the primary goal of this prohibition is to maintain the integrity and security of police operations, as well as to prevent any form of corruption that these devices might facilitate.
Additionally, the Force’s Public Relations Officer highlighted the need for this ban to eliminate the risk of criminal elements exploiting these transaction methods within police environments.
He remarked that despite earlier directives against such practices, some police Commands and Formations have persistently ignored these rules. “It has come to the attention of the Force leadership that some Commands and Formations continue to flout this regulation,” Adejobi stated.
The statement concluded with a stern warning from the Inspector General of Police (IGP): any non-compliance with this new policy will result in strict disciplinary actions against the leaders of the offending commands and formations.
